Illustrative yacht guest cabin made up as twins, two single beds either side of a shared bedside table below a long hull window

Guest cabins

Twin or double, often convertible, and slept in by different people each trip.

Guest cabins carry the widest range of people of any bedroom on board, and the same cabin may be a couple one week and two friends the next. The bed has to work for both without looking like a compromise for either.

What this cabin asks

The questions that decide this bed

  1. 01

    Twin, double, or both

A convertible arrangement is the usual answer, but how the two halves join, and what happens to the bedding at the join, is what decides whether the double reads as one bed or two pushed together.

  2. 02

    Different guests every trip

Nobody is choosing this bed for themselves. It has to suit people whose preferences are unknown, which usually means a setting that is comfortable for most rather than perfect for one.

  3. 03

Crew have to turn it around

Guest cabins are made up, converted and changed over more often than any other. Anything awkward about that is repeated every charter or every trip.

  4. 04

They are rarely the same size

Guest cabins on the same yacht often differ by a few centimetres each. Treating them as one identical set is usually where the problems start.

Useful to have

None of this is needed to start a conversation. If you already know any of it, it saves a round of questions.

  • How many guest cabins there are, and whether they differ
  • Whether you want twins, doubles, or convertible
  • The berth sizes you have now, and the space between them
  • Who typically uses them: family, friends, or charter guests
  • What the crew find difficult about the current arrangement
