VIP cabin
A guest bed that should feel like the owner’s, in a cabin that is usually tighter.
A VIP cabin is held to the standard of the owner's cabin and given less room to meet it. It is often forward, where the hull is still narrowing, so the bed has to earn its comfort from proportion rather than from size.
What this cabin asks
The questions that decide this bed
-
01
The hull is still curving
Forward of amidships the beam falls away and the topsides tuck in. A rectangle drawn on the plan does not always survive contact with the shell, and the foot of the bed is usually where it shows first.
-
02
Motion is stronger forward
The further forward the cabin, the more it moves. Guests who sleep well aft may not sleep well here, which changes what the mattress and the fixings have to do.
-
03
It is judged against the owner's cabin
Guests who have seen the main cabin will compare. Matching the feel of it in a smaller room is a question of proportion, headboard height and the quality of what is touched.
-
04
Access to the cabin
A VIP is often at the end of the run of doors, stairs and turns. What can physically reach the room sets a limit before comfort is even discussed.
Useful to have
None of this is needed to start a conversation. If you already know any of it, it saves a round of questions.
- Where the cabin sits fore and aft, and on which deck
- The berth size you have now, and the clearance around it
- The route from the passerelle to the cabin door
- Whether the hull side is visible or fully lined
- How often the cabin is used underway rather than at anchor
